5 Tips for Keeping Your Pet Safe in the Car!

1. Safe Harnesses and Crates

It's important to make sure your pet is just as secure as you are in a moving vehicle. We recommend a crash-tested harness or crate. Keeping your pet secure means that they likely will not sustain or cause injuries in the event of an accident and they are thrown. This also means they cannot block your view and distract you while driving!

2. Pets Are Safest In The Backseat

They might backseat drive, but that's okay! Pets in the front seat can be a dangerous distraction in a vehicle.

3. Never Leave Pets Unattended

No matter the temperature, you should not leave your pet in the car. On a 70° day temperatures can quickly rise an additional 20° in 10 minutes. On a cold day, older, smaller, and sicker pets may be susceptible to injury or stress due to the temperature in the car as vehicles can act like a refrigerator in the cold.

An important thought is, even if you leave your car running, whoever come across your pet may not realize and attempt to get the car broken into to save the animal.

4. Heads In Windows

It's important to keep your pets' heads within the car as they could be struck by debris on the highway or thrown out from other cars. In the event of an accident, this could prove deadly.

5. Care Around Curves

Pets get sick in the car just like us! Be mindful of harsh stops, windy roads, and aggressive turns as they can jostle your pet around and injury them or make them sick.
