Did you know the type of dish you use for your pet matters?
Plastic bowls can harbor bacteria that can make you and your pet sick because they cannot be fully sanitized. Bacteria from pet food bowls that go unwashed can affect humans and increase the risk of gastrointestinal illness. This bacteria also leaves room for your pet to develop acne or other bacterial infections on their chin or face. If you notice any type of bump or lesion on your pet’s chin, be sure to stop using plastic and contact your vet!
Plastic bowls enable toxic BPAs and other chemicals to leach into your pet’s food. BPAs have been found to cause damage to various organs within humans and animals.
So what do we do?
The first step is choosing stainless steel bowls as they are non-porous and do not crack or break. This leaves no room for bacteria to live or grow. The next step is to ensure that you are cleaning your pet’s food and water dishes daily to stop any other bacteria!
